TRIBUTE | SSEKASAMBA | DEATH

KITAGWENDA - Kitagwenda deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Joseph Ssekasamba Muhoozi, who succumbed to advanced kidney failure at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital on Friday was set to introduce his fiance, reports have indicated.

A relative to the deceased said Ssekasamba was planning to introduce his Kigali-based fiance and at the time of his death, he had finalised plans to have the occasion launched in Masaka.

Ssekasamba, who died at about 10:00am on Friday (January 20), had communicated to several of his friends in Masaka that he had started the journey.

However, Masaka district National Resistance Movement party secretary Sarah Nakyanza had warned him not to go for dialysis at Mbarara since he was weak.

"We had agreed with Ssekasamba that he attends the dialysis treatment after concluding his meetings in Masaka, but he insisted and I think the machine was too strong for his health, we were left in shock," she said.

New Vision has learnt that Ssekasamba was last month admitted at Mbarara Hospital with kidney failure before he was put on dialysis which he attended regularly.

Ssekasamba, a professional teacher and an old student of Mbarara High School, initially served as Masaka deputy RDC before he was transferred to Kiira municipality in Wakiso district and then to Kyegegwa and Kitagenda.

The news regarding the death of Ssekasamba has left the districts of Masaka and Mbarara in shock where he commanded massive popularity and had mobilised support for NRM.

Source of popularity

Ssekasamba became popular during the race between former Mbarara MP Winnie Byanyuma and the former Mbarara RDC Ngoma Ngime where he was instrumental.

The aggressiveness of Ssekasamba attracted the attention of President Yoweri Museveni, Gen Salim Saleh and other members of the First Family including his close friend, Gen Henry Tumukunde.

In Masaka, Ssekasamba was the brains behind the NRM landslide victory in the LC1 election where he successfully mobilised against the Opposition candidates in the over 400 villages.

Ssekasamba, who lost his mother last year, will be buried at Kikonko-Kalera village (Kigagata rd) in Sheema district today.
