An Eritrean has died in a road crash on the Tororo-Jinja Highway at Buyemba Junction, Mile 7—Asinget, New Vision Online has learnt.
The crash, which occurred on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at about 5:00 am, involved three vehicles: Mercedes Benz (Reg No. KDL 901L/ZH 1635) driven by Henry Simiyu, a Kenyan; Scania Truck (Reg No. KCN 841Z/ZF8413) driven by Christopher Mugamangi (50), also a Kenyan; and Toyota Hiace (Reg No. UBL 894F), driven by Gessa Aramathan, a resident of Malaba town council.
According to Bukedi South Police spokesperson Moses Mugwe, the crash occurred when Simiyu veered into the wrong lane, brushing against the front tyres of Mugamangi’s truck before colliding head-on with Aramathan’s taxi.
An Eritrean passenger died on the spot, while three others—one female and two male adults—were critically injured and rushed to St Anthony Hospital in Tororo.
“The crash was caused by reckless driving. The scene has been documented, and the driver of the Mercedes Benz is in police custody,” Mugwe said.
All vehicles involved have been towed to the Police yard pending inspection.

According to the latest traffic Police report, road crashes rose by 6.4% last year to 25,107. Of these, 4,434 were fatal, 7,539 minor, 13,134 serious, affecting 25,808 casualties.
