Yumbe nun killed in boda crash

Police have confirmed that the fatal road crash which occurred at Kuru trading centre in Kuru town council in Yumbe district on Saturday, claimed the life of a nun, identified as Rev. Sir. Lilly Driciru, 57, attached to Lodonga Catholic parish in Lodonga Minor Basilica.

The incident on Saturday afternoon along the Koboko-Yumbe road involved a Mazda vehicle with registration number UBP 121F and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle without a registration plate.

Preliminary reports indicate that when he reached the trading centre, the driver, identified as Richard Newton, who was moving at very high speed, lost control and knocked down two people on a Motorcycle.

Police Spokesperson for North West Nile, SP Collins Asea, said that both the cyclist and his passenger (now deceased) sustained serious injuries.

Sister Dricilu succumbed to her injuries after being transferred to Yumbe regional referral hospital.

"The driver of the vehicle was issued with a 94 form and PF 48A & B while the cyclist remains admitted at Yumbe regional referral hospital,” said Asea.

By press time, Sister Dricilu's body was still at the hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination to aid Investigations.

The vehicle and motorcycle were towed to Yumbe Central Police Station.
