Crackdown on crime: 36 suspects arrested in Mukono

At least 36 suspected wrongdoers have been arrested during a joint security operation in Mukono district.

The operation followed an outcry from various parts of Mukono on increasing cases of robbery, where gangs of armed men waylay people at night, targeting mainly workers suspected to be carrying money and other personal valuables.

In a statement released by Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson on Thursday, it indicated that at least 36 suspects were arrested on October 31, 2024.

The joint security team that included the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, the Uganda Police Force, intelligence agencies, and local council vigilantes, led to a successful operation in Kagala Zone, Goma Division.

The operation, according to Onyango, was conducted between 12:00 am and 4:00 am. He said it targeted the known notorious black spots for harbouring suspected criminals dealing in drugs, including smoking and selling to the members of the public.
