Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a seven-year-old boy in Kyenjojo District.
The boy's body was recovered after his family received ransom demands from the alleged killers. Addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru today (June 22, 2026), police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma identified the suspects as Isaiah Manyindo, also known as Bala, 26, and Elias Twijukye, 17.
According to Kituuma, police registered a case of kidnapping and murder by strangulation on June 13, 2026, following the disappearance of Osbert Turinayo, a seven-year-old resident of Isoroma Village in Kyenjojo.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on the evening of June 12 at around 9:00pm, the child went with his brothers to watch a movie at a bar within the neighbourhood but never returned home.
On June 15, the family reportedly received a phone call from an unknown person demanding a ransom of sh1.5 million in exchange for the child’s release.
Kituuma said police had already launched investigations and commenced tracking the suspects after receiving information about the disappearance.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the killing and guided police to the scene where the victim’s body had been concealed under tree leaves,” he said.
While commending investigators for the arrests, Kituuma expressed concern over the circumstances under which the child was left unsupervised late at night.
“The strongest message here is how a child of seven years would end up in a bar at 9:00pm. We managed to arrest the suspects, but we are not going to recover the life of the victim,” he said.
He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to take greater responsibility in protecting children, saying negligence by adults can expose children to dangerous situations.
“This life has been lost because some people failed to do their work. Parents and community leaders have a very serious role to play in protecting children,” Kituuma added.
Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
