KAMPALA - St Mary’s College Kisubi Old Boys Association (SMACKOBA) is set to award Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, with the Distinguished Alumni Achiever Award.
The award recognises old students who have excelled in their careers and contributed to national development.
SMACKOBA President Roy Baguma Nyamutale has revealed that Gen Kainerugaba, to receive the award later this year, was selected for his exemplary leadership as CDF and his long-standing support to the Association, and his former school.
During the meeting with Col. Chris Magezi, the military assistant to the CDF, Nyamutale described Gen Kainerugaba as a leader who reflects the values of the institution not only through his professional accomplishments but also through his continued engagement with the Old Boys community.
The meeting took place in Kampala on Wednesday, November 26th.
At the same engagement, Col Chris Magezi delivered the CDF’s contribution, Gen. Kainerugaba's sh20 million towards SMACKOBA's awards dinner.
A release from the Directorate of Communications at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs states that Nyamutale explained that the Association promotes networking, career growth and community service among its members, while supporting the development of the college.
"We acknowledge old boys who have made a significant impact in their fields and in society. Gen Kainerugaba has distinguished himself in national service and has always taken interest in the activities of SMACKOBA,” Baguma said.
Baguma added that part of the proceeds from the dinner will support an eye medical camp in Northern Uganda, scheduled for February 2026, as part of SMACKOBA’s wider community service initiatives.
Treasurer Anthony Kibirige and the Deputy Secretary General of the association, Colonel Dr John Lusiba, attended the meeting, which also highlighted Gen Kainerugaba’s support for the Brothers of Christian Instruction, the founders and managers of the school since 1906.
The Brothers have shaped generations of students, often under limited resources, and the CDF has been among those who have stepped in to assist.
Col Chris Magezi told the team that Gen. Kainerugaba maintains a strong bond with St Mary’s College Kisubi.
“Despite his busy schedule, he always finds time to respond to SMACKOBA’s concerns. His consistent support speaks for itself,” he said.
Col Magezi also commended the commitment shown by the Old Boys Association, noting that their dedication reflects a strong sense of responsibility and unity. He said such solidarity positions the school for continued excellence.
“These schools made us and nurtured us. When we grow and succeed in life, the hope is that we give back,” he said.
This year's SMACKOBA annual awards dinner, the get-together will celebrate excellence, inspire younger alumni and strengthen the tradition of giving back that has shaped the St Mary’s College Kisubi community for more than a century.
