Casual worker dies after touching live power line in Rukiga

RUKIGA - A 30-year-old casual worker has been electrocuted after he came into contact with a live electricity wire while working at a roofing site in Rukiga District.
The deceased, identified as Venture Namanya, a resident of Nyamabale Cell in Muhanga Town Council, died on August 24, 2026.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said preliminary investigations indicate that Namanya was undertaking casual work at a construction site when he came into contact with a live electricity wire.
“He came into contact with a live electricity wire, resulting in fatal electrocution,” Tumushime said.

Police responded to the scene and documented the circumstances surrounding the incident before the deceased's body was conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police have cautioned construction workers and property owners to exercise extreme care when carrying out work near electricity lines.
