POLICE | ILLEGAL | PROTESTS
KAYUNGA - The Police in Kayunga district have summoned Bunyala kingdom minister in charge of general duties to make a statement over allegations of inciting the public.
Augustine Tumwine is said to have incited the public when he led a peaceful demonstration recently, protesting the sale of Bajjo Forest land to Kira Motors.
However, Kayunga Crime Investigation Department chief Innocent Dusabe said Tumwine did not appear, to record a statement, with his lawyers informing the Police that he was sick.
“We extended the summons to February 22, when he is supposed to report to Police and record a statement,” Dusabe said.
He said Tumwine, and other suspects still at large, are accused of inciting violence and spreading harmful propaganda while they demonstrated last week.
He, however, did not disclose the identities of the other suspects that the Police was looking for to answer similar charges.
Not scared
During the demonstration, Tumwine accused Kayunga Resident District Commissioner Ssempala Kigozi of conniving with people who want to grab the forest land.
He also vowed to fight anybody supporting the sale of the forest land.
“I am not scared of fake charges that land grabbers have opened against me and I am ready to record my statement after recovering,” Tumwine said.
Banyala cultural leader Baker Kimeze, who led the demonstration, said they will fight back to save the forest.
