BUL FC has reached their first-ever final of the FUFA Super 8 tournament. They defeated SC Villa 6-5 in penalties of the semifinals after a 1-1 draw at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The Jogoos took the lead in the 26th minute after winger Peter Onzima buried a pass from Ivan Bogere to slot the ball past BUL goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.

BUL managed to bounce back into the game with Samuel Ssekamatte scoring from the penalty spot after Simon Mukisa seemingly brought down Regan Kalyowa. Villa players protested the decision claiming that Kalyowa was fouled outside the box.

In fact, centre referee Ashaduh Ssemere booked SC Villa goalkeeping coach Yusuf Ssenyonjo over the same for attacking the fourth official as the first half ended 1-1.

In the second half, both sides had chances but they were not utilized as the game ended 1-1. In spot-kicks, BUL came out winners after SC Villa missed two of those.

BUL will now take on the winner between KCCA and BUL in the final.

The tournament which returned after a four-year hiatus, serves as a precursor for StarTimes Uganda Premier League teams ahead of the new season.

The event was last held in 2018 and 2019 but in the subsequent years, it was not played due to Covid19.

Elsewhere, Rodriguez Giancarlo’s thunderbolt saw Vipers beat Maroons 1-0 at St Mary’s stadium in Kitende.
