Beyond horns and hides: How Ankole cattle stole show in Washinton DC
“The contrast was made clear when delegates pointed to South Africa, where strategic positioning of Ankole genetics has created a booming luxury market. Just last month, in July 2026, an Ankole bull named Omega fetched a record-breaking R5.5m (about $300,000) in a private sale, driven purely by its superior genetics and striking horn development,” a statement issued by Ugandan officials in Washington noted.
On dairy and heritage, participants called for branded ghee, cultured milk and artisanal cheeses linked directly to Uganda’s geographical identity.
