The Light Up Uganda for Jesus gospel convention entered its third day with Pastor Patience Rwabwogo Museveni and a litany of religious leaders leading believers from different denominations to intercede for the nation at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala city.

"As the Church, it is part of our priestly role that we lead the nation in crossing seasons in entering gates and coming out of another gate to another gate," overseer of Born-Again churches in Uganda, Dr Moses Odongo, said on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

As the country celebrated about 40 years of peace ushered in by the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Odongo cited that it is a priest's responsibility to pray for sustained peace as Uganda transitions into seasons.

Odongo enhanced his remarks with a Biblical commentary drawn from Joshua 3 that stresses the role of the priests when the children of Israel crossed the River Jordan to the promised land after 40 years.

"It was the priests and the elders who held the covenant box and stepped into the water as the children of Israel crossed over. And so, we are saying that as the Church today, we have a responsibility as priests to lead the nation in crossing over. Our country has come from far and we still have a great future," he said.

Pastor Patience, the lead pastor at Covenant of Nations Church, is the chief convener of the convention under the theme: The Crossing: The Church Stepping into the Waters Before the Nation, which is drawn from Joshua 3:11-17.

The gospel mission that started on Monday with the men's conference, concludes on Saturday with President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by First Lady and the Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Janet Museveni, expected to address the believers.

Apostle Dr John Bunjo, in his sermon, prophesied that Uganda, after 40 years of NRM, which ushered in peace and freedom of worship, there is a spiritual transition and that the Church is instrumental in ensuring a transformed Uganda.
