Four suspected violent criminals have been apprehended in separate operations carried out in Wakiso and Mpigi districts, recovering a firearm and dismantling a bodaboda robbery syndicate.

While addressing journalists on May 12, 2025, at the joint weekly media briefing at Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala city, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said the joint security team conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kasangati on May 9, leading to the arrest of Imantireganya Afudululu, a Congolese national believed to be the mastermind behind several armed robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

“Afudululu was arrested in Kasangati town council. During interrogation, he revealed the location of a firearm used in multiple crimes,” Kituuma said.

He added that the suspect led security officers to the home of Ivulungo Bumali in Mayuge district, where a semi-automatic rifle and 14 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

“Afudululu also named several associates, including individuals only identified as Moze and Mapengo. We are actively pursuing these suspects,” Kituuma added.

Bodaboda rider murders

In a separate operation in Mpigi district, three suspects were arrested in connection with the brutal murders of boda boda riders.

“We arrested Amon Ssenyonjo, Amidu Ssali, and another suspect identified only as Abaho. They are part of a criminal ring that has been targeting and strangling boda boda riders before stealing their motorcycles,” Kituuma said.

He noted that the arrest was made possible with the assistance of a motorcycle credit company, which provided tracking information that helped investigators locate the suspects.

“These operations are part of our broader crackdown on violent criminal networks targeting the transport sector and using illegal firearms,” Kituuma said, promising continued efforts to dismantle such syndicates.
