Security tightened across Uganda ahead of General Election

Police have heightened deployment in 13 districts which they identified as hotspots ahead of Uganda's January 15 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Force’s Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police Frank Mwesigwa, named the hotspots as: Kiseka, Kawempe and Makindye division in Kampala, as well as Kiira municipality and Nansana in Wakiso district.

Other hotspot districts are; Lira, Iganga, Mbale, Jinja, Luweero, Mityana, Ssembabule, Lugazi, Mpigi and Busia.

Mwesigwa said the Police chief, Abas Byakagaba, had okayed a heavy police presence in the 13 hotspot districts. There are 146 districts in Uganda.
