Alleged UPDF imposter granted bail, detained on another case

LIRA - An alleged UPDF imposter, who is facing two separate cases of aggravated defilement, was on Tuesday afternoon granted bail on one, but still detained on another.
Stephen Ainemugisha, a medical practitioner claiming to be a medical doctor and a retired UPDF Lieutenant Colonel, was granted a cash bail of sh1m and his two sureties bonded at sh10m each, not cash.
The presiding judge, Justice Duncan Gaswaga, ordered the accused person to add two more sureties, to register with the registrar.
There was concern in court when the journalists were blocked from covering the session.
Rashida Okercha, an activist who has been frequenting court following the case, expressed disappointment over the granting of bail to the accused person.
The accused person was taken back to prison.
Other charges
Ainemugisha, who is also charged with the offence of aggravated trafficking in children, is to reappear in the Magistrates' Court on October 13 for mention of the cases against him.
The same court was also scheduled to hear a bail application by Emmanuel Awany, son of Bishop Tom Ibrahim Okello battling accusations of murder.
The hearing was adjourned to October 10, 2022.
