Acid attack victim returns from surgery room to seek justice

In December 2011, Nakiryowa was attacked with acid outside a university accommodation facility, where she had gone to collect her children. She sustained severe injuries to her face and spent about three months in the hospital. Her family reported the attack to police and raised suspicions about her husband Buyinza’s possible involvement. Buyinza was arrested on December 13, 2011 and formally charged with attempted murder at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Members of the Uganda Women’s Parliamentary Association during their assembly at Parliament recently. MPs led by the chairperson of the Uganda Women’s Parliamentary Association (UWOPA), Linda Agnes Auma, added that Nakiryowa’s situation brings to the fore the salient issues that lay fertile ground for gender-based violence in schools and society.
