After around five months in hiding, Kitagwenda district chairperson Ismail Mushemeza has been arrested over allegations of corruption.
He reportedly vanished in July 2025, eluding the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers who had sought to arrest him at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries rally in Kicheche sub-county, where he had been scheduled to campaign.
Since then, his whereabouts were not known until his arrest on Wednesday (December 10) in Nansana, Wakiso district.
Mushemeza is accused of soliciting bribes from job applicants in Kitagwenda, with victims alleging to have paid between 10 and 20 million shillings for employment opportunities.
SHACU spokesperson Mariam Natasha confirmed the arrest, stating that Mushemeza will soon be arraigned in court.
“Yes, he was arrested earlier today on allegations of selling jobs in Kitagwenda. He should be arraigned before court soon,” she said.
Mushemeza’s arrest marks a significant move in the ongoing crackdown on corruption within local government offices.
