Soroti Anglian Bishop Kosea Odongo has implored Christians to work hard in the new year and avoid being beggars.

Odongo says God has provided an opportunity to all those who have crossed over into the new year.

He advises that it is necessary for everybody to have burning desires set in their new year plans stating that it’s the point for all the accomplishments in life.

“If you’re not going to work hard this year, it will be a loss to yourself. How come some people become prosperous while others don’t? The way you take your beginnings matter,” Odongo says.

“During 2024, my message to all of you is that every one of us should have a burning desire to do something great not just being weak and continue to beg, continue to live like you’re the last to be created and, therefore, everybody is responsible for causing you to be the last. No, God has given each one of us an opportunity and that opportunity is the year 2024,” Odongo said in his new year sermon at St Peter's Cathedral in Soroti city.

He prayed for peace and reconciliation among leaders in all categories adding that 2024, must be the year people have peace with God.

Turning to the leaders in the Government, the prelate preached for an end to the spirit of corruption that has continued to affect service delivery in the country.

The county is losing ten trillion shillings to corruption every year, according to the Inspectorate of the Government, which money would have helped improve the education, health sector among other services.
