“We wanted to put meaning to this Independence by getting holy matrimony. I’m today happy that I have finished all the sacraments of the church,” said Jackson Ebiaru, 63, who wed Precilla Arego, 62.

SOROTI - As Uganda prepares to celebrate its 61st independence anniversary on Monday, 16 couples in Soroti District resolved to mark the occasion by receiving the highest sacrament in the church of matrimony.

In the same way, Soroti Archdeaconry held the confirmation of 340 Christians which is the second last sacrament in the Anglican Church.

“We have two big functions in the church of weeding and confirmation as one way of celebrating the goodness of God as we also celebrate 61 years of independence,” Canon Naphtali Odele the Archdeacon of Soroti Archdeaconry said.

The function was held at Asuret Primary School playground, and witnessed by thousands.

“We wanted to put meaning to this Independence by getting holy matrimony. I’m today happy that I have finished all the sacraments of the church,” said Jackson Ebiaru, 63, who wed Precilla Arego, 62.

Martine Aoru and his wife Agnes Aanyu, 30, were the youngest couple who said they had been longing to get married in church.

“Wedding is expensive when you are alone but cheap when you are many. I am happy that I have wed the love of my life,” a happy Aoru said.

Bishop Odongo hailed the couples for their decision to marry in church and called upon others to emulate these couples.
