The Soroti District Security Committee has disqualified 126 households from benefiting from the government's restocking programme after a verification exercise found they did not meet the required criteria.
District Security Committee Chairperson and RDC Haji Imran Muluga says the scrutiny was conducted to ensure that only genuine and vulnerable households benefit from the sh5 million livestock support programme.
According to Muluga, some of the rejected beneficiaries were public servants, pensioners, political leaders, and other individuals who fall outside the programme guidelines. He warned local leaders against manipulating beneficiary lists and urged them to uphold transparency and fairness in the selection process.
Meanwhile, Soroti District LC5 Chairperson Bob Owiny says the district leadership will continue monitoring the exercise to ensure government resources reach the intended beneficiaries.
The restocking programme targets vulnerable households to improve livelihoods, food security, and household incomes through livestock production. In Soroti District, 486 households are expected to benefit, with 357 already paid.
