Uganda drawn against Cameroon, Mozambique in FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers

From the draws conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo on Thursday, the two Ugandan sides will join the competition in the second round where the Queen Cranes will face Mozambique in the first leg between October 6-8 before the second leg in Maputo a week later.
Uganda drawn against Cameroon, Mozambique in FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers
The Uganda women's national U20 team the Queen Cranes together with the national U17 side the Teen Cranes have been drawn against Mozambique and Cameroon respectively in the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers.
From the draws conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo on Thursday, the two Ugandan sides will join the competition in the second round where the Queen Cranes will face Mozambique in the first leg between October 6-8 before the second leg in Maputo a week later.
The winner of the two legs will meet the winner between Senegal and Benin in the third round of the competition.
The Teen Cranes, on the other hand, will also have their first leg at home against fancied Cameroon between 2-4 February 2024 before the second leg in Yaoundé a week later.
The winner of the tie between Uganda and Cameroon will go through to the third round to meet the winner between Zambia and Tanzania.
The CECAFA region apart from Eretria and South Sudan has entered the two competitions including neighbours Kenya that return to football competitions after FIFA lifted the ban imposed on the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) in November last year.
KFF had been banned in February last year following the government’s disbandment of the federation and imprisoning federation president Nicholas Mwendwa.
Tanzania joined Nigeria and Morocco to play at their first-ever FIFA U17 world cup last year in China and will start their campaign for the second international stage appearance away against Zambia.
The U17 qualifier's first Round is composed of two teams determined according to their participation in the last U17 Women’s World Cup editions, the second round will have qualified teams from the first round in addition to the 23 exempted teams where 12 teams will qualify for the 3rd round for the six teams to the fourth and last round where 3 teams will qualify to the world cup to be hosted in Chile.
The U20 qualifier format also has six first-round teams from which 3 will qualify to join 29 teams in the second round from where 16 will qualify for the third round until the fifth and last round where the four qualified teams will play for the last two positions to represent Africa and the event that is expected to be hosted in South Korea.
The draws come a week after the senior women's football team the Crested Cranes were drawn against Rwanda in the 2024 Olympics games qualifier due next month apparently, all the teams have no technical bench available for the immediate summoning of the players for duty after the local football governing body FUFA declared them vacant.
It is anticipated that FUFA will now make an immediate reaction by naming the respective technical staff of the three teams following the draws.
