Uganda Queen Cranes may not have achieved their target of winning either gold or silver in the women's football tournament at the African Games in Accra, Ghana after crashing out in the semifinals to the superior Nigerians on Monday but head coach Sheryl Botes is proud of the team’s effort.

She also believes that the girls learned so much from the tournament, an experience that is going to prepare them for future and bigger engagements.

“This group is a young team that still has a lot to learn, and I am so proud of how they applied themselves in the group stages and even in the semifinals. We needed to play such opponents to have a feel of what it is like facing them and I believe the girls learned so much from the games against Ghana and Nigeria, two giants on the continent in women's football,” said Botes.

Botes will lead her coached side again tonight at 8 pm Ugandan Time, in a third-place playoff match against Senegal for a bronze medal at Cape Gold Coast Stadium.

Uganda was eliminated by Nigeria (2-0) whereas Senegal suffered a 3-1 defeat to hosts Ghana both in the semifinals.

This was Uganda’s first loss in the entire tournament having completed the group stages (three matches) unbeaten winning once and drawing twice to finish in second place on their way to the semifinals.
