SOROTI - There is renewed hope in the Teso sub-region following the establishment of a Regional Public Health Emergency Operations Centre at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital in Soroti city.
The facility is expected to coordinate all districts across Teso to strengthen surveillance of infectious diseases and improve preparedness and response to pandemics.
Speaking at the launch, hospital director Dr Ben Watmon said the centre will streamline information flow on disease surveillance and other public health concerns, enabling faster and more coordinated responses.
On her part, Winfred Acham said partners are already working to support the centre’s operations, especially in responding to public health emergencies.
Dr Michael Mwanga said the centre will coordinate surveillance efforts across the 11 districts of Teso, emphasizing that disease outbreaks in communities should ideally be detected within seven days to ensure timely intervention.
