Claire Kirabo has joined a short list of the world’s longest documented Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stays that span multiple years. Previous most notable documented patients include Saudi Arabia’s Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud, known widely as the “Sleeping Prince,” who spent two decades (from a 2005 car accident until his passing in 2025) on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.

MBARARA - A 33-year-old woman whose six-year stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital became one of the longest in Uganda has died.
