In a matter of weeks, residents of Kira and Bulindo may finally see an end to their struggles with the dust-laden roads that have plagued the area. The condition of the Kira-Bulindo road has been so notorious that it became the subject of numerous memes, with people jokingly claiming that one could "die by dust" on this stretch of road. While these exaggerations were meant to highlight the road's deplorable state, they also show the desperate need for action.

Fortunately, hope is now on the horizon. In an interview with The New Vision, Julius Mutebi, the Mayor of Kira Municipality, confirmed that a contract has been signed between the local authorities and the contractors. Despite some bureaucratic delays, Mutebi assured that these issues are being resolved swiftly.

One of the delays was the release of funds by the government. However, according to Mayor Mutebi, the contractors should receive their advance payment very soon, allowing work to commence immediately.

“The contractor requested an advance according to the contract, and although the funds hadn't yet reached our account, I can confirm that the money has now been secured. The road works are as good as set in motion. We’re just waiting for the contractor to mobilize their equipment,” said Mutebi.

The China International Construction Corporation (CICO) has been awarded the contract, and once all processes are finalized, they will begin work on the road. “The ink is dry on the contract, and residents should be hopeful. In two to three weeks’ time, work will begin,” Mutebi added.
