Ugandan jazz icon Isaiah Katumwa has officially touched down in Kampala ahead of what’s being billed as the most emotional night in Uganda’s live music history his “30 Years of Jazz” anniversary concert, set to take place on July 20, 2025, at the Serena Hotel Kampala.

In a heartfelt press statement, the saxophonist expressed deep gratitude to his fans, industry supporters, and notably Vision Group, the main organiser of the show.

“I want to thank New Vision for always supporting me and pushing my career. They’ve believed in me every step of the way,” Katumwa said with emotion.

But this night, he says, is about more than music. It’s a celebration of an entire journey his, the industry’s, and Uganda’s evolving love affair with jazz.

Katumwa’s rise from a young dreamer with a saxophone to a national jazz figure is a story of talent, endurance, and vision.

“Thirty years are not just numbers. They’re a testimony,” he shared. “They remind me of how far I’ve come and how far we’ve come as a jazz-loving nation.”

What began as a niche sound has now grown into a thriving genre, and Katumwa has been at the heart of it all.
The concert promises a rich, immersive experience, with a carefully selected lineup of performers each one handpicked by Katumwa for their personal connection to his journey.

“Each person on that stage holds a special place in my life,” he said. “Some I’ve inspired, some I’ve mentored, others I have inspired them.”

Among the night’s biggest highlights is the appearance of Moses Matovu of Afrigo Band, who will join as a special guest a powerful tribute to Uganda’s musical roots and an intergenerational bridge between legends and emerging talent.

For Katumwa, turning 30 in music carries deep meaning both artistic and spiritual.

“As a Christian, I reflect on the fact that Jesus began His work at 30,” he revealed. “This is not an end it’s a new beginning for me. A spiritual reset. A call to greater purpose in music and ministry.”
