Political campaigns, even for musicians’ bodies, come with all sorts of promises – empty and full.

One of the candidates contesting for the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) presidency, Cindy Sanyu, has promised to secure for the association a spacious, modern and ‘lit’ office if elected.

She made the pledge on May 18 during a press conference in Bukoto, a city suburb, to launch her manifesto.

“I am going to procure a big office that will be fully furnished with all the modern equipment,” Cindy said.

The reason for it, she said, is that ‘big’ artistes shun the activities of the association because they are not comfortable going to small offices. UMA offices are currently located at the National Theatre building in Kampala.

Cindy, however, said the offices would still be located at the National Theatre.

Asked whether she had already found which particular space she would procure, she said she hadn’t yet.

The Boom Party singer, however, promised to get the place as soon as she is elected into power.

According to Cindy, the ‘big’ artistes are Jose Chameleone and Bebe Cool. She has perhaps not listened to Kenzo waxing lyrical about promoting Uganda, about Sheebah and her Sheebaholics, Moses Matovu’s legacy and about Bobi Wine’s political status.

Meanwhile, Cindy also promised to coerce the Government to form a special ministry for musicians.
