Brenda Nanyonjo on why they involve families of Miss Uganda winners

20th March 2024

"We ask the whole family to be around and explain to them what it means to be that (Miss Uganda). We ask them to call us if there is anything they haven’t understood and not follow the things they hear,” Nanyonjo said.

Miss Uganda CEO Brenda Nanyonjo has revealed that the reigns of  Phiona Bizzu (Miss Uganda 2012) and her successor, Stellah Nantumbwe (Miss Uganda 2013), helped them underscore the importance of having a clear communication mechanism with the families of beauty queens to curtail the rumours.

Nanyonjo said the rumours take a toll on the families of the beauty queens that consume the rumours unfiltered.

Nanyonjo, who was appearing on Urban Television on Wednesday, March 20, revealed that the franchise nearly got consumed by rumours after claims were made that Bizzu fought in a bar yet she was home.

“After the beauty queens get crowned, we take them back to their parents and tell them that right now, it is all fanfare, but if there is a problem, you will learn about them on social media or news, so we prepare them with their siblings. The day we take them back home, we ask the whole family to be around and explain to them what it means to be that. We ask them to call us if there is anything they haven’t understood and not follow the things they hear,” she said.

“One time they said Bizzu fought in a bar yet she was home. That day we had an activity. I took her home myself a bit late,” Nanyonjo explained.

She was in  the company of the reigning Miss Uganda and Miss World Beauty With A Purpose, Hannah Karema.
