The 2025 Uganda National Examinations officially kicked off today across the country, with education leaders in Teso sub-region reporting a smooth start despite a few logistical challenges.
In Kapelebyong District, education officials expressed relief that the weather remained dry, allowing examination materials to reach all centres on time.
“Kapelebyong being a semi-arid area, if it had rained, we would have challenges delivering examinations to the centres,” Stephen Olinga, the District Education Officer, said.
He explained that it has taken about five days without rain.
“The only challenge we have is potholes on our roads. However, all examinations have reached the sitting centres in time as prescribed by UNEB guidelines, and the first paper started well and on time.” Olinga explained.
In neighbouring Bukedea district, the education department reported adequate preparation and co-ordination with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
UNEB allowed the establishment of three examination storage centres in Malera, Kabarwa, and Kachumbala sub-counties, in addition to the main centre at Bukedea Town.
According to Bukedea district education officer Stephen Okurut, these centres are strategically located to serve schools efficiently and ensure the timely distribution of examination papers.
“We are grateful to UNEB for the three storage centres which help us serve all schools in time,” he said.
He added that no candidate should miss sitting for exams over financial issues.
“I have asked headteachers to allow all candidates to sit for examinations. Issues of fees and other charges can be handled later. What is important is that all students sit their papers peacefully,” Okurut said.
Serere DEO Annet Icumar equally confirmed that the examinations started without any challenges on day one.
These education leaders expressed optimism that the examinations will continue without disruptions, reaffirming their commitment to supporting UNEB’s mission of maintaining integrity and fairness throughout the process.
In the entire Teso, Soroti Senior Secondary School registered the highest number of candidates at 900, who all turned up on day one of the examination today, October 13, 2025.
