Soroti University seeks shs4b for new staff recruitment

SOROTI - The vice Chancellor Soroti University of Science and Technology, Prof. John Robert Ikoja, has asked Parliament for an allocation of shs4.8b to facilitate the recruitment of academic and administrative staff to run the three new programs that have been accredited.

The new programs that start next academic year include biomedical laboratory Sciences, Finance, Accounting, computing, and physiotherapy.

Furthermore, the university requires an additional shs2.4b to recruit academic staff to teach the students for years four and five.

“Chairperson, our kind appeal is that the university be supported to address those gaps. We also require shs20b towards the completion of the Anatomy block,” Prof. Ikoja said.

He made the appeal to the visiting committee of education and sports of parliament headed by John Twesigye.

The current pioneer students are pursuing Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery, Bachelors of nursing Science and Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics and Computer Engineering. 

The University opened in 2019.

Its mandate is to train competent and competitive professionals capable of serving in all parts of the country, and the region in Applied Sciences.

Soroti University is the 9th Public University in the country. The University is located in Soroti district, seven (7) kilometres from Soroti town along Moroto Road.
