It is not so much that D’Mark Power are in danger of missing the National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs, a completely foreign concept to the storied club.
It is that they could end up relegated from the top flight.
With the Falcons, Warriors, Nkumba Marines, Charging Rhinos, and Makerere University either out of the league competition entirely or in the lower divisions, it means the NBL could lose yet another champion, and in Power’s case, a five-time league winner.
Time is still on Power’s side, with only seven of their 22 regular season games completed. The problem is form is not, as they have dropped five of their outings.
And it does not get any easier today, as they face the Namuwongo Blazers at the YMCA. Namuwongo is enjoying the kind of regular season success and acclaim that was characteristic of Power’s sunny days. Namuwongo have won eight of nine, including the last seven.
What Power would give to stun the newcomers and relieve their woes.
Wednesday at Lugogo, Fayed Bbaale drained 3-of-5 from downtown on the way to a game-high 18 points as the City Oilers thrashed Livingstone 99-63 to record their eighth win in nine games this season.
Benjamin Kawuma, James Okello, and Rogers Dauna all finished with double figures for the nine-time champions with 15, 14, and 12 points respectively.
Diopa Lukusa and Bruce Okullo netted 12 and 10 points respectively for Livingstone, who are now 3-5.
