President Yoweri Museveni has donated 40 computers to Bwambara SS in Rukungiri to equip learners with computer literacy.
Security Minister Jim Muhwezi delivered the computers to the school on Wednesday (April 23) during his Baraza meetings in Rujumbura County.
"This is a pledge that President Yoweri Museveni made when he visited Bwambara eight years ago, now it has come," Muhwezi said.
Described as timely, the package comes as schools adapt to the new lower secondary curriculum, which emphasizes hands-on skills and the incorporation of ICT training.
In a brief address to the community, Muhwezi highlighted government’s commitment towards advancing education in Uganda which emphasizes hands-on skills as well as research.
"Now that computers are here, it will be easy to install the internet to enhance students' academic research. The school has over 300 students," he said.
He urged students to embrace values like discipline, integrity and strategic positioning that will lead them to success.
Expressing gratitude to the President, the school head teacher, Justin Tuhirirwe, commended Muhwezi for following up on the pledge.
Ven. Canon. George Bazahuza, the Archdeacon of Bwambara Archdeaconry acknowledged the challenges posed by the lack of computers and expressed optimism that the new resources will minimise the challenge the school was facing.
