KIRYANDONGO - Kiryandongo district local government has launched a sh1.117b initiative to upgrade school infrastructure, marking a significant step towards improving educational standards across the district.
The project aims to create a more conducive and enriching learning environment for thousands of pupils, including an increasing number of refugee learners.
Under the initiative, several primary schools will receive essential facilities. Bweyale Public Primary School will get a two-classroom block.
Kaduku Primary School will receive a two-classroom block with an office and storage. Namilyango Primary School will receive a four-classroom block and a ten-stance latrine. Ndabulye Primary School will get a five-stance latrine.
Mboira Primary School will receive a two-classroom block with an office and storage, while Alarotinga Primary School will receive a staff house.
During the groundbreaking ceremony at Bweyale Public School, deputy chief administrative officer Deo Kabugo emphasised the importance of timely and high-quality construction.
"In Kiryandongo, excellence is non-negotiable," Kabugo stated, urging contractors to strictly adhere to established standards.
He also asked head teachers to prioritise infrastructure maintenance in their planning.
District chairperson Edith Aliguma Adyeri appealed to parents to increase agricultural productivity in order to support both household food security and the school feeding programme.
"Parents, I urge you to contribute food for your children. This will not only support their well-being but also ensure they remain engaged and focused on their studies,” she declared.
The investment directly targets the district’s alarming classroom-to-pupil ratio, which currently stands at 1:84, far above the recommended 1:53.
At Bweyale Public Primary School, the ratio is 1:114, underscoring the urgency of these improvements.
