Katikkiro Mayiga tips Buganda Royal Institute graduates

A total of 1379 students were awarded diplomas and certificates in various disciplines. Of these, 706 were boys and 673 were girls.

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has asked fresh graduates who have acquired skills from Technical, Vocational Education and Training institutes (TVET) to get hands-on experience before setting up their enterprises.

"You need to work with those who have acquired skills in the fields in which you have graduated,” Mayiga told the graduates during the 18th Graduation ceremony of Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical Education (BRIBTE) Mengo Kampala on Thursday.

A total of 1379 students were awarded diplomas and certificates in various disciplines. Of these, 706 were boys and 673 were girls.

He also advised graduates to be ready for challenges faced after school and to be patient and trustworthy when they acquire jobs.

Mayiga advised the graduates to observe honesty, saying it’s an accepted and consistent behaviour that signifies a shared set of values that promote well-being, togetherness, and unity.

“Remember the values instilled in you while at the institute, be curious, resilient, be ready to face challenges in the fields of employment,” he cautioned

At the same ceremony, Mayiga launched the 25-year silver jubilee of (BRIBTE) and thanked the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi visionary idea to start up the institute, which has contributed to the development of Buganda and Uganda at large.

Institute gets more computers

Nyombi Thembo, the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) executive director, said UCC will donate a consignment of more computers to the institute.

UCC had provided 40 computers to the institution, however, the number of users is overwhelming, therefore there is a need for the government to provide the institution with more computers,” said Nyombi.

Equipping students

The institute was founded by Buganda Kingdom in 1999 to equip students with practical knowledge and skills for employability.

The Institute operates under the kingdom’s education ministry. It is also registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports and licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to offer training in Business, Technical and Vocational Studies at both Certificate and Diploma levels.
