MENGO - A total of 711 students have graduated from Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical Education Mengo during the scientific graduation ceremony that was held, Friday29, January 2021.

Of these, 144 were females and 267 were males. 

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 15th graduation ceremony was held in a virtual model, parents and guardians were not allowed to physically attend the event.

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga who also doubles as the institute’s Vice chancellor said that he was encouraged by the higher enrolment of females into technical training which is contrary to perception held by society on girls child enrolment on vocational education and training. 

Mayiga advised graduates to embrace technology, live meaningful lives and strive to learn new things.

He also counseled them from listening to people telling them things are impossible, urging them to be smart for everything is possible. 

Mayiga called upon students to listen to experts on Covid-19 issues and that they should also not forget that other diseases like AIDS still exist.

The institution principal Anthony Wamala said that this was the least number of graduates graduating for the last 10 years attributing it to covid-19 pandemic. 

Wamala said that 75% of the students have graduated with Diplomas in different disciplines and only 25% with certificates. 

He encouraged graduates to always try new things, endure hardships and will have the opportunity to enjoy their labour.
