KAMPALA - Kampala University students will on Saturday, September 7, 2024, cast their votes for the 22nd guild presidential elections.

The race for the guild presidency has two candidates: Daniel Makuol Awan, a second-year student doing a Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management, and Anthony Kato Ahereza, pursuing a Bachelor of Mass Communication.

The duo seek to repress the 21st Kampala University guild president, Esther Florence Namale.

Prior, the other highly contested post is that of the Vice Guild President, who represents each of the institution's campuses, countrywide.

Among the campuses is Ggaba Main Campus where the guild president originates and sees his/her vices elected from Masaka Satellite Campus, Mutundwe Campus, Jinja Campus, and Luweero Campus, respectively.

At the institution’s Mutundwe Campus, for example, a 25-year-old female student is battling for vice guild presidency against three male counterparts.

Martha Nabirye, doing a Bachelor of Arts with Education, faces three other male contenders namely; Gilbert Sabiti, Isaac Dana, and Fahad Kayondo.

In her message to students, Nabirye called upon students to vote for her, saying “I promise to work tirelessly to serve the students to the best of my abilities. I will also work towards improving the welfare of students while ensuring that the university maintains its reputation for excellence.”

Nabirye or any of her contenders will replace Cheyi Kansiime for the vice guild presidency at the Mutundwe campus if elected into office.

A head of the elections, the university’s Dean of Students, Augustine Mugalu, warned candidates and students against campaigning under any political parties, insisting, the same would lead to automatic disqualification once found.

“Take serious note that campaigns shall start at 2.00pm and shall not go beyond 8.00pm. Anyone who violates this rule is punishable and may lose their candidature,” Mugalu warned earlier on Monday, September 1, 2024, before the candidates’ open campaigns kicked off, Tuesday.
