KABALE - dfcu Bank has joined hands with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University to support the renovation of Bwera Primary School in Kabale District.
The Bank has allocated sh20m towards classroom refurbishment and new furniture as part of the 2025 Community Giveback Project led by Scholars and Alumni of the Program.
Established in 1983, Bwera Primary School currently educates 268 pupils. Despite its vital role in the community, the school has long struggled with inadequate facilities, including dilapidated classrooms, poor sanitation, lack of clean water, and limited furniture.
The Giveback Project seeks to address these challenges by restoring classroom blocks, constructing modern sanitation facilities, providing desks, and installing a water harvesting system.
“At dfcu Bank, we see education as a powerful investment in Uganda’s future. Our support for the renovation of Bwera Primary School through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is a recommitment to ensuring every child learns in dignity, in safety, and with the tools they deserve. Together with our partners, we’re building not just classrooms, but hope and opportunity,” Maryann Wanjiku Michuki, Chief Business Solutions & Marketing Officer at dfcu Bank, said.
Professor Justine Namaalwa, Program Director of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, commended dfcu Bank’s support, noting that it strengthens the Program’s mission of empowering young people through education and fostering a culture of giving back.
Over the past five years, the Scholars Program has undertaken several impactful projects across Uganda, from constructing classrooms and pit latrines in Agago and Napak Districts to drilling boreholes in Iganga and supporting schools in Buyende.
This year’s intervention in Kabale is yet another step in ensuring that children in underserved communities have access to safe and inclusive learning environments.
