Hope and lessons fuel Bishop Stuart University’s 2026 quiz campaign
As the students prepare for yet another battle of wits this season, they are encouraged to make use of the remaining time by revisiting material from previous editions.

ULTIMATE UNIVERSITY QUIZ SEASON 4 ORIENTATION
📍 Mbarara City
For the students at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara, hope for victory in Season 4 of The Ultimate University Quiz is alive and this time, they are determined not to let past disappointments define them.
The memory of returning empty-handed from previous editions has instead become a lesson, pushing the students to start preparing earlier and sharpen their competitive edge ahead of the much-anticipated contest that begins this October.
“We have learnt enough lessons and we have been able to know our weakness as being lack of early preparation. As I speak to you, we have already started preparing for the challenge,” said Marvin Ainebyoona, a fourth-year law student and former participant.

The determination was evident on Friday (September 4) as students welcomed representatives of Vision Group (the quiz organiser) and the competition’s sponsors who visited the university for an orientation ahead of the start of Season 4.
The session took place at the Faculty of Law.
In attendance was the university's Vice Guild President, Angella Arinda (pictured below, right), whose presence illustrated the support from the students' leadership.

"One of the things we have learnt from the orientation is, one, we have been motivated to participate that even at a point where you feel you are too inferior to participate, you now have hope because this could be your starting ground," Arinda, a third year law student, later said.
"We, as the students, feel so privileged and confident enough to participate in this quiz and we do believe and we have hope that we shall be taking it [title] home."
For many students, the orientation was more than an opportunity to meet the organisers and sponsors. It was a moment to declare their intentions and the message was clear: Bishop Stuart University is coming to compete.

Peace Vicky Namara, a Bachelor of Science in Education student, was all smiles as she expressed her desire to make the university’s team and help bring the coveted trophy home.
“We have the brains and we have resolved to get into our in-house competition so that we get the best who will come and face off with other universities. This year, we have put that as our priority and I am sure we shall win,” she said.
Her optimism appeared to capture the mood across the university, where anticipation is gradually building as the competition draws closer.

With some students only beginning their university journey while others prepare to graduate and enter the job market, the orientation also offered an opportunity for the students to hear from professionals about life beyond the lecture room.
Andrew Elwana (pictured below), the Deputy Director of Communication at the Bank of Uganda, urged students to be cautious when seeking financial services, advising them to consider regulated commercial banks rather than unregulated money lenders who often charge exorbitant interest rates.

Elwana also highlighted the role of the Central Bank in managing the economy, noting that inflation currently stands at 3.5 percent.
Jude Mulindwa (pictured below), the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Southwestern Regional Manager, challenged students to shed what he described as negative perceptions about government employment.
Mulindwa encouraged them to apply for opportunities whenever they arise instead of assuming that government jobs are reserved for people with connections.
“Usually, you young people are always biased. When you see government jobs being advertised, you stay back saying those jobs are already given out, without trying your luck. That is wrong,” he said.

The UCC regional manager shared his own experience, saying he joined UCC after applying for a position despite not knowing anyone within the organisation.
“I have worked for UCC for over 13 years, but I was a nobody after university. I applied without having anyone I knew."

For Derrick Muhire (pictured below), a lawyer by training working with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in the Tax Education Division, students should also remain open to opportunities outside the careers they initially trained for.

“I am a High Court advocate, but I am now at URA taking people through tax education," said Muhiire.
"So, be part of the quiz because it has the capacity to add a skill that can help you outside your law degree."

"Visit the New Vision website, and under the Media category, click on Videos on Demand to check out episodes of The Ultimate University Quiz from previous seasons,” Adii (pictured below, right) urged the students.

The brief showing was meant to give the students a feel of what happens during the quiz.
For Bishop Stuart University, the road to Season 4 of the university quiz competition is, therefore, not simply about answering questions on the stage. It is about learning from past mistakes, identifying talent early and building confidence.
And as the countdown continues, the students appear ready to turn lessons from previous disappointments into a fresh campaign for glory.
