WAKISO - During an interfaith prayer session this week, the students of Avance International University in Wakiso district were encouraged to focus on their studies and positively make the most of their time in school.

“Don’t cheat exams. Make use of your time at the university, don’t become pregnant and avoid HIV," said Dr Betty Mategeko, the director of quality assurance at the university.
She reminded the students that they are the ambassadors of the private institution, which is based in Nabweru.

"Don’t waste your time. We don’t want spoilt students, because you are supposed to be referrals of our university."

The Tuesday Prayer Day at the university campus was presided over by Muslim and Christian clerics: Imam Hamza Chuka, Sheikh Abdurrahman Lule, Sheikh Abubakar Mubeedo, Rev. Godwin Akamwesiga and Rev. Fr. John Semaganda.

It was themed: 'It’s Ebenezer', drawn from 1 Samuel 7:12.

Mategeko urged the students to put God first and maintain a positive attitude towards learning, also calling on the university's top management to work as a team.

She also encouraged the learners to read extensively, both electronic and physical work, to ably grasp the concepts of the different courses they are undertaking.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Joshua Kato Kimata said the university administration designated the Prayer Day to thank God for what He has done for the institution.

“God is the provider. Through his providence, we are able to register a greater achievement in student enrolment and improved infrastructure,” he said.

The vice-chancellor advised the students to maintain the core values of the university: integrity and promoting unity in diversity.

In a similar call, the university's director, Dr. Gracious Ariyo, appealed to the students to place God first if they are to register success in life.

"Take a little while to appreciate God, walk with God, and you will achieve a lot and even possibly become a professor."

The day was crowned with the cutting of a cake.
