KAMULI - Busoga Kingdom's Henry Mitala Woira Kitimbo, 75, the Chief Prince (Isabalangira) of Bugabula chiefdom in Kamuli district has passed on. Woira has been Kyabazinga’s delegate in Busoga Lukiiko.

Woira is one of the top brains who initiated the cultural procedures that saw the enthronement of Prince William Gabula Nadiope 1V as the Kyabazinga of Busoga in 2014.

He was a member of the Busoga Chief’s Royal Council (BCRC) that nominated and elected the sitting Kyabazinga, His Royal Highness William Gabula Nadiope 1V and also the delegate for Bugabula BB Chiefdom in Busoga Lukiiko.

Woira’s abrupt death occurred at his home along Brewer Road in Kamuli Municipality on the night of April 28, 2026, when he collapsed.

He was picked up and rushed to a private clinic and later to Kamuli General Hospital where he was announced dead on arrival.

The news of his death swept through Busoga like a storm, followed by eulogies from Obwakyabazinga bwa Busoga, the Royal (Balangira) clan, cultural/business institutions, etc.

Relatives suspect the mishap could have originated from stress, having lost his wife in February 2026 and has since lived a solitary life with his 15-year-old grandson.

Eulogies

The Speaker of Busoga Lukiiko, George William Mutyabule, described Woira as the man who loved Busoga, Obwakyabazinga wa Busoga (OBB) and the Royal clan and was always available despite short notice.

The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope 1V, said he had lost a “beloved Brother” and cultural mentor, having been in charge of the Royal Archives that house the royal regalia, Books of the History of Busoga and Bugabula Chiefdom, the ancestral albums, among other secrets in Budhumbula Palace.

“He loved me and was always there for me right from my childhood to Coronation. He mentored me in Kisoga culture and how a future King conducts himself,” the Kyabazinga said.

Freeman kalulu Nteeba Ow’ogutwe, the Director of Oreon & Lyana Primary Schools- Nawanende in Kamuli district, said Busoga has lost one of its encyclopedias.

“He recited Busoga’s History, cultural norms and practices like a veteran,” Kalulu said, adding that, as of now, Busoga has less than three historians, including Eriya Ndambi Kisige, 85, the Bugabula Chiefdom Cultural Norms and Antiquities Minister.

Ket Nampiina, 65, the Women Leader of Kitayunjwa Sub County, said Woira shall be remembered for his contribution in the Kyabazinga Gabula’s journey to Coronation.

“He was one of the lead brains that wove Gabula’s way to Kingship. Kyabazinga will miss him,” Nampiina said.

A requiem mass was read for the deceased in the Kingdom Headquarters at Bugembe, awaiting another at St. Mark’s Church-Kamuli, before the burial slated for Saturday in the Ancestral cemetery in Namwendwa.
