Weekly Market Wrap: USE activity slows slightly

Turnover at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) slumped in the week ending October 3, falling 88.65% to sh620.45m from sh5.47b the previous week.

According to data from Crested Capital, at least eight counters traded during the week, with Stanbic Holdings accounting for the bulk of activity.

Stanbic moved sh422.9m, representing 68.16% of turnover. MTN Uganda followed with sh140.31m, while Bank of Baroda Uganda (BOBU) registered sh53.04m.

Airtel Uganda recorded sh1.44m, Quality Chemical Industries (QCIL) sh967,600, Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) sh882,050, dfcu sh528,000 and NIC Holdings sh381,000.

Stanbic gained 3.33% to close at sh62, BOBU rose 2.83% to sh43.16, and MTN climbed 1.99% to sh296.80. Umeme was up 1.25% to sh405, while dfcu appreciated 1.15% to sh264.

Airtel dipped by 0.36% to sh80.0. Other counters, including NIC (sh5.0), BATU (sh15,000), UCL (sh6.5), QCIL (sh118.0) and NVL (sh151) remained unchanged.

Among cross-listed counters, Centum fell 1.02% to sh414.78, East African Breweries dropped 1.48% to sh5,699.88, and Jubilee Holdings slipped 1.02% to sh8,563.20.

Kenya Airways shed 3.47% to sh105.43 and KCB lost 1.02% to sh1,525.32. On the positive side, Equity gained 0.72% to sh1,552.08 and Nation Media Group rose 1.28% to sh354.57.
