Uganda Airlines chief executive officer Jenifer Bamuturaki has reaffirmed the national carrier’s partnership with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to continue transporting Muslim pilgrims to Mecca.
This, according to Bamuturaki is one of the ways of widening the airline’s globe coverage.
She was speaking during an Iftar dinner hosted by Uganda Airlines at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, attended by over 100 Muslim guests.
“We carried our first pilgrims two years ago and we continue to work with travel operators to secure these bookings. As we get better with our Airbus, we expect to even increase the numbers. We also have more booking and it’s interesting that as a national carrier who are serving Ugandans regardless of religion or tribe,” Bamuturaki explained.
The airline's chief operations officer, Adedayo Olawuyi, noted that they are looking to not only offer quality air travel but rather aim to build new partnerships and connections that transcend borders, cultures and communities.
"As we look forward to the future, we recognize that the journey ahead is paved with challenges and opportunities. But it is through unwavering support, dedication and vision that will continue to drive us to greater heights. Uganda Airlines remains committed to delivering exceptional service, enhancing connectivity and contribution to the socio-economic development of the country,” Adedayo said.
Speaking on behalf of the Supreme Council, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti of Uganda, confirmed that the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council will continue its partnership with Uganda Airlines for this year's Hajj pilgrimage.
Hajj, the 5th pillar, is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca (Saudi Arabia) that every adult Muslim who is physically and financially able must make at least once in their lifetime.
It is one of the most significant religious journeys for Muslims worldwide, gathering millions of Muslims from all over the World in Mecca and Medina to perform holy rituals and seek spiritual fulfilment.
