Turkish Airlines is set to launch direct, non-stop flights from Istanbul to Entebbe International Airport in July 2025.
The announcement was shared by Amos Wekesa, the CEO of the Great Lakes Safaris via his X (formerly Twitter).
“This will be our second direct flight out of Europe into Uganda after Uganda Airlines launches its London route on May 18.”
Wekesa, who was invited by Turkish Airlines’ regional office to present Uganda to tour operators in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, said the invitation highlighted the need for more proactive marketing of Uganda in underrepresented European markets.
“The ticket wasn't the excitement, but the fact that they want someone to push Uganda,” he wrote. “They selected one person from Kenya, one from Rwanda, and me from Uganda.”
Currently, Turkish Airlines serves over 60 destinations across Africa, second only to Ethiopian Airlines. Wekesa says that many European countries know little about Uganda, and without targeted outreach, tourism from those regions would remain limited.
