Ethiopian Airlines Country Manager for Uganda, Bethlehem Fisseha, has commended travel agents for their tireless efforts that have enabled the airline to remain competitive on the continent.
According to Fisseha, travel agents play a crucial role in selling and promoting Ethiopian Airlines and act as the backbone of their business. She was speaking on Friday, May 16, 2025, during an event held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
“Your dedication to providing excellent service to our customers has not gone unnoticed. We are honoured to partner with you. We want to extend our gratitude to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for their support, which has significantly contributed to our growth and recognition as the best sustainable airline in Africa,” Fisseha highlighted.

Her comments come as Ethiopian Airlines launched a new route to Porto, Portugal, starting July 2, 2025, enhancing connectivity between Africa and Europe.
“The service will operate four times per week, with a stopover in Madrid, Spain, providing a seamless connection between Addis Ababa and Porto, a historic city renowned for its vibrant culture, architecture, and the world-famous Port wine,” Gideon Kizito, sales and marketing representative, said.
This new route forms part of Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic expansion into European markets, further solidifying its role as a gateway between Africa and Europe.
The airline’s hub at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is a key connecting point for passengers travelling to over 130 international destinations, offering convenient connections from Portugal to East Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.
The Ethiopian carrier leads the African-Asian market in terms of seat capacity, holding a 36.9% share, followed by EgyptAir at 10.3% and Uganda Airlines at 3.8%.
Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways also recently signed a strategic joint venture to enhance connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
The agreement, signed in Addis Ababa, includes a codeshare partnership and new flights between the Ethiopian and UAE capitals.
