Uganda Airlines board members sworn in for second term

Six of the seven-member team of the Uganda Airlines board have been sworn in for a second three-year term. 

Fred Byamukama, the transport state minister, presided over the swearing-in ceremony in Kampala on Friday (August 22).

Dr Priscilla Mirembe Sseruka stayed as the chairman, promising to increase the fleet of aircraft, expand routes, close in on the loss margins and continue to strengthen the human resource skills.

She also outlined the board’s priorities, including a 10-year corporate strategy aligning with the National Development Plan IV.

The five other members are: Samson Rwabwire, Barbara Namugambe, Herbert Kamuntu, Abdul Karim Omoding and Patrick Ocailap, the country's deputy Secretary to the Treasury.

Constant Othieno Mayende, who has over 23 years’ experience in banking, strategy, business development, financial management, audit and quality assurance, is the newest member.

He replaced Ebrahim Kisoro Sadrudin.

In his remarks, Byamukama underscored the importance of Uganda Airlines as a symbol of the country's pride and progress.

He said its success is integral to the economic fortunes of the country, according to the statement by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

"Uganda Airlines is very dear to President Yoweri Museveni because he understood that establishing it would provide social and economic benefits by boosting tourism, trade and economic growth," the minister said, according to a social media post from the ministry.

Uganda Airlines started in 2019 to provide scheduled air transportation services in East Africa and near-international markets.

It was awarded the World's Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award, given by Ch-Aviation in 2021 and 2022.

Its vision is to be a world-class airline exceeding customer expectations, through high-quality service, global connectivity, and commitment to excellence.
