BULIISA - State Minister for Public Service, Grace Mary Mugasa has concluded a working visit to the Tilenga Project Area in Buliisa, operated by TotalEnergies Uganda.

Her tour earlier this week included key sites such as Rig SINOPEC 1503 at Kasemene 1, the Legacy Well at Kasemene, and the Industrial Area at Kasinyi.

The Tilenga oil well is operated by TotalEnergies Exploration and Production (TEPU).

TEPU acts as the operator on behalf of the Joint Venture Partners (JVPs), which include itself, the China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC)  and the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC).

A release from her office states that she expressed appreciation for the remarkable work being undertaken by TotalEnergies and its subcontractors, noting how well-aligned the activities are with the national agenda for First Oil.

The Minister was particularly impressed by the strong emphasis on national content, where the majority of workers are Ugandan and many of them drawn from local communities.

She also lauded the project’s commitment to knowledge transfer, pointing to the Tilenga Academy, which offers different courses.  Some of the students have in the past been offered opportunities abroad to further enhance their skills.

"I applaud the national content, many workers are Ugandans, including locals. The ongoing knowledge transfer is commendable, with youth being trained locally and abroad through the Tilenga Academy," she said.

While meeting the PAPs, the Minister heard different people give testimonies of how the project has positively transformed their lives. Compensation packages were described as fair and life-restoring.

For instance, Emily Faucan reported that she used her compensation to acquire three pieces of land and was supported in establishing a beekeeping project, now earning her over sh2 million per month.

The Oil and Gas industry is indeed creating lasting value for communities and the country at large.
