BUDGET REACTIONS: Inclusive Resource Redistribution Can Spur Wealth, Job Creation

I would have preferred that Government concentrates more on promotion of social entrepreneurship, which is the practice of building and operating a business with the primary goal of solving social, cultural, or environmental problems.

NATIONAL BUDGET READING 2026

Dr Joyce Tamale, Managing Director, Capital Solutions Ltd

The 2026/27 budget was dedicated to all wealth creators, especially the youth, whose energy, enterprise and innovation will reportedly drive Uganda’s transformation into a 500-billion-dollar economy. I would want to appreciate government’s efforts to create jobs for Ugandans, especially the youth.

However, I would have preferred that Government concentrates more on promotion of social entrepreneurship, which is the practice of building and operating a business with the primary goal of solving social, cultural, or environmental problems. This sort of entrepreneurship has emerged where conventional markets have fallen short, particularly for marginalised populations.

In Uganda, 41% of citizens subsist on less than $1.90 daily, and women hold fewer than 30% of registered businesses. Social entrepreneurship is not just about profits. It’s about people, planet and purpose. It’s about creating solutions that drive inclusion, protect our environment and strengthening communities.

From recycling plastic waste into school furniture, empowering women and youth through sustainable livelihoods, to introducing clean energy and climate-smart solutions, the Government should support the young innovators and change makers to build an inclusive and resilient future for all.
