Suspect confesses to stealing over 20 motorcycles

A suspected motorcycle thief has allegedly confessed to stealing more than 20 motorcycles from 2019 to date.

Justine Ocen, 28, who is a resident of Lajwatek Cell, Laroo-Pece Division in Gulu city, allegedly says he stole the motorcycles from the districts of Oyam, Apac, Lira, Arua, Adjumani, Kotido and Kiryandongo.

Ocen was apprehended together with Collin Ojok, another suspect, in Minakulu sub-county, Oyam over the weekend for the alleged theft of Vincent Ojok's motorcycle registration number UFR 749T.

Layibi Centre A & B Cell Business Community security chairperson Mutesa Okot Kabaka said the duo allegedly stole the motorcycle on Friday (January 27) night from Ojok at Industrial Area, Bardege–Layibi Division in Gulu city.

Gulu West Boda Boda Association head of enforcement George Tek-Kwo said a total of 47 motorcycles have been stolen between December 2022 and January 2023 out of which only six have been recovered.

Gulu Deputy Resident Commissioner in charge of Laroo-Pece Division Peter Banya said Ocen has been on their wanted list for so long.

According to Banya, Ocen has also been implicated in the alleged theft and sale of two motorcycles from Lajwatek Cell, where he resides.
