Police rescue suspected motorcycle thief from mob

The Police in Koboko district are holding a 30-year-old man for an alleged attempt to rob a motorcycle from a bodaboda rider in Abuku sub-county.
Hakim Rahman, a resident of Abuku village in Abuku sub-county was cornered by residents in Abuku village on Monday, May 8, after he allegedly attempted to attack a bodaboda rider using a panga.
Police said the suspect approached the rider, Sunday Mark Asiki, at about 3:00 pm on Koboko –Yumbe road and convinced him to take him to Gborokolongo at a fare of sh8000, but on reaching Abuku he wanted to go to a different destination.
The rider sensing danger requested that Rahman pay him only sh5000 and disembark, but he pulled a panga out of his bag and allegedly swung at Asiki.
He narrowly dodged the swing and took off while making an alarm that attracted the residents who pursued and arrested the suspect.

“A call was made to the Koboko DPC who rushed to the scene and rescued the suspect after the mob attempted to break into the Police cells at Abuku sub-county. He was taken to Koboko Central Police Station,” said Angucia.
She cautioned residents to be vigilant of wrongdoers and warned the residents against mob justice with a call to report such wrong elements to local leaders or security organs.
