It is evident that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba embodies a new generation of leadership as Uganda looks to the future. Through his diplomacy, forward-thinking ideas and commitment to the youth, he represents a vision of a Uganda where dreams can be realised, and opportunities abound.

Through his diplomacy, forward-thinking ideas and commitment to the youth, he represents a vision of a Uganda where dreams can be realised, and opportunities abound.

Gen. Muhoozi’s journey and public engagement have inspired many young Ugandans by demonstrating that they, too, can shape their own destiny and make meaningful contributions to the development and prosperity of their country.

It is time for a new generation of leadership. I honour, salute and celebrate all those who contributed to the struggle that liberated our country. We must keep alive the memories of the people who sacrificed their lives for Uganda. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes, learn and grow.

Muhoozi continues to advocate political, social and economic transformation. His vision for the development of Uganda is ambitious, particularly in placing the youth at the centre of the country’s future.

His impact goes beyond military and diplomatic responsibilities. In his capacity as senior presidential advisor on special duties, he has demonstrated the importance he attaches to empowering Uganda’s young people.

By recognising the youth as future leaders, he has engaged with youth organisations and encouraged their participation in national decision-making.

Muhoozi’s support for young people has inspired many to pursue their ambitions and seek opportunities to contribute positively to Uganda. He believes that the youth are a cornerstone of the country’s progress, and that belief deserves recognition.

Muhoozi has also served Uganda during some of its most challenging periods. His supporters see him as a leader who has been tried and tested and who has demonstrated courage, conviction and a willingness to take risks in pursuit of what he considers the national interest.

His political ambitions, therefore, can be viewed as arising from a desire to contribute to finding lasting solutions to the challenges facing Ugandan society.

Since 1986, the National Resistance Movement Government has pursued national economic recovery and expansion after years of political instability and economic decline. Under President Yoweri Museveni, Uganda has made progress in rebuilding its economy and strengthening its institutions.

The country has also played a significant role in regional peace and security. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has participated in peace and security operations in countries including Somalia, South Sudan and the DR Congo. Uganda has also hosted refugees fleeing conflicts in several parts of the region, reflecting its longstanding policy of refugee protection.

Muhoozi has continued to emphasise the importance of a strong and professional UPDF through training and equipping the force. National security, in his view, remains an essential foundation for economic and social development.

Beyond security, Uganda’s development requires greater investment in agriculture, trade, industry and human capital. The commercialisation and competitiveness of agriculture, for example, remain important to increasing exports, improving farmers’ productivity and ensuring food security.

Uganda’s economic journey has been significant since independence. The country inherited a difficult economic environment, but successive governments have sought to expand production, improve infrastructure and strengthen the foundations for economic growth.

For Muhoozi, the challenge for the next generation of leaders is to build on these achievements while confronting the issues that continue to affect ordinary Ugandans.

His supporters also point to his role in regional diplomacy, particularly in efforts to improve relations between Uganda and Rwanda.

The tensions that affected Uganda-Rwanda relations in the late 2010s created significant political and economic challenges for the two countries. Muhoozi’s engagement with leaders on both sides contributed to efforts aimed at restoring dialogue and improving relations.

His meetings and engagements with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Museveni helped create space for dialogue at a time when relations between the two countries were strained. The eventual reopening of the Uganda-Rwanda border was an important development for cross-border trade, movement and regional co-operation.

This demonstrates that leadership is not only about holding an office; it is also about the ability to engage, listen, negotiate and seek solutions to difficult problems.

There will always be debate about what constitutes good or great leadership. Every generation produces individuals who challenge the status quo and seek to influence the direction of society.

Today, leadership must be judged not only by what leaders achieve, but also by how they achieve it and the contribution they make to the societies in which they serve.

The task of a new generation is to provoke positive change, embrace new ideas and respond to the challenges of its time. A good leader must either be capable of carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to them or identify and work with people who possess the skills required to deliver results.

Muhoozi’s supporters believe that his military experience, diplomatic engagements and advocacy for the youth position him as one of the emerging leaders capable of playing a significant role in Uganda’s future.

His journey has attracted considerable public debate, as any discussion about the country's future leadership inevitably does. However, that debate should also allow Ugandans to examine the ideas, policies and leadership qualities that different generations of leaders bring to the table.

Uganda's future belongs to its people, particularly its young population. The country's next chapter will require leaders who can promote peace, economic opportunity, innovation, national unity and regional cooperation.

For those who believe in Muhoozi's leadership, his emergence represents the possibility of a new chapter in Uganda's political and social development.

Thank you, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for your commitment, dedication and patriotism. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made in service to Uganda.
