The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, ordained eight priests and six deacons on Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral Diocese in Kasana-Luwero.

The new priests and deacons are from different parishes in Kasana-Luwero and Kampala.

They arrived for the special Mass accompanied by members of their families, who later handed them to the Archbishop for ordination.

Every one of the 14 names called out was met by cheers and ululations from the lively congregation of family, friends, priests, religious sisters and brothers, as well as politicians.

Ssemogerere urged them to be faithful to the promises of celibacy and obedience. 

He also thanked all those who supported and nurtured the deacons and seminarians to become priests and deacons, respectively.

The function took place in the diocese where Ssemogerere was consecrated as bishop in August 2008.

He served as bishop of Kasana-Luwero until his elevation to Archbishop of Kampala Diocese by Pope Francis in 2021 following the death of Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

The diocese, which now has 81 diocesan priests and 22 missionary priests, remains without a bishop.
